Generous Donation

December 2019: G. Henle Publishers generously support the Barenboim-Said Akademie, Berlin, by donating their entire Urtext sheet music catalogue. The Barenboim-Said Akademie recognizes this partnership as a most valuable academic and pedagogic initiative for their students. The donation is comprised of 1,250 music books by 55 composers and represents the entire Henle Urtext catalogue.

Felix Henle | Chairman of the Board of the Günter Henle Foundation

“Our support of the outstanding work of the Barenboim-Said Akademie is something that is very close to the heart of our foundation. Without doubt, the excellent training and the wonderful atmosphere at the Akademie would have also appealed a great deal to my grandfather, Günter Henle, the founder of the Urtext publishing house.”

Maestro Daniel Barenboim | President of the Barenboim-Said Akademie

“I have benefited for many decades from the Henle Urtext piano and chamber music editions. It was an edifying experience and I am now profoundly grateful to the Günter Henle Foundation and its G. Henle publishing house for their generous gift, which will ensure a very high editorial collection for all the students at the Barenboim-Said Akademie.”

Prof. Dr. Michael Naumann | Rector of the Barenboim-Said Akademie

“It is a special experience to be the recipients of a donation which embodies the spirit of Günter Henle, a highly cultivated German entrepreneur, whose love and knowledge of music remains unsurpassed amongst fellow industrialists of his time – and those who followed him.”

Prof. Dr. Mena Mark Hanna | Dean of the Barenboim-Said Akademie

“This generous donation from Henle grants our students and faculty unparalleled access to some of the finest notational music editions in Western music. Henle’s Urtext editions are a great pedagogic tool and key to the development of young musicians.”

The Barenboim-Said Akademie offers highly talented young musicians, predominantly from the Middle East and North Africa, the opportunity for intensive performance studies in music supported by an integrated curriculum in the humanities.
