On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the birth of Johannes Brahms, the Sammlung Musikgeschichte der Meininger Museen and the Brahms-Institut an der Musikhochschule Lübeck issued an invitation in September 2008 to a symposium on the topic "Late phase(s)? - Johannes Brahms’ Works of the 1880s and 1890s". Internationally recognized specialists thus not only dedicated themselves to famous late works such as the clarinet compositions opp. 114 and 115, the Piano Pieces opp. 116-119 or the "Four Serious Songs" op. 121 but also to comprehensive questions concerning the aesthetics and reception of the late works. This report contains all of the 27 congress contributions in German and in English.
